Cabins on the Lakefront

No matter the time of year, the Castaway Cottages’ property captures everything that is stunning about the pristine and natural landscapes of the NWT. In the summer, enjoy private access to the beaches of Great Slave Lake, the 2nd largest lake entirely in Canada. For sailing, paddling, fishing, or lounging, the waters of Great Slave Lake provide a stunning backdrop for your time in the NWT, reflecting the spectacular Midnight Sun for unforgettable summer days. The property and surrounding area provide perfect privacy for hiking, birdwatching, biking, and more.

In the winter, our distance from any city lights means you can enjoy an undiminished view of the NWT’s world-famous Northern Lights. The NWT is situated under the phenomena known as the Auroral Oval – the strongest concentration of Northern Lights activity in the world. For nearly 250 nights per year, the Aurora fills our northern skies, and while your days are spent snowshoeing, ice-fishing, or staying indoors, you’ll spend many memorable nights gazing upwards at the brightest and most active Northern Lights displays in the world.

The Town of Hay River

The Castaway Cottages’ property provides that perfect balance between quiet privacy and relaxation with the comforts and excitements of modern living. You’re only a 10-minute drive from being right in the heart of downtown Hay River, the second largest town in the territory behind the capital of Yellowknife. Known as “The Hub” due to its central location and variety of businesses and cultural events, Hay River can be a place to enjoy restaurants, movies, farmers’ markets, or any number of adventure activity operators. From here, your trip can take any number of adventurous turns further into the territory for day trips or extended visits to communities elsewhere in the NWT.
